CKD, PAS or fully assembled? Complete B2B buyer guide: unit cost, installation time, freight efficiency, and which assembly level suits your workshop.
CKD vs PAS vs FAS Body Kits: Complete Buyer Guide
When sourcing commercial vehicle body kits, the first decision is assembly level: Complete Knock-Down (CKD), Partially Assembled (PAS), or Fully Assembled (FAS). Each offers different trade-offs on unit cost, installation time and freight efficiency.
What Is a CKD Body Kit?
A Complete Knock-Down (CKD) body kit ships flat-packed: all aluminium or steel panels, boards, subframe sections, hinges, bolts and hardware included. Nothing is pre-assembled. CKD offers the lowest unit price and best freight efficiency: 5-9 kits per truck slot vs 1 assembled body. First-build installation: 6-8 hours for 2 workers. Repeat builds: 4-6 hours.
Best for: Body builders with workshop capacity, 10+ unit orders, export buyers, multi-chassis operations (Sprinter, Crafter, Daily, Transit, Master, Ducato).
What Is a PAS Body Kit?
A Partially Assembled (PAS) body kit has the labour-intensive sub-assemblies already built at the factory: subframe, floor module, front wall panel. On-site installation: 3-4 hours for 1-2 fitters.
Best for: Dealers and body builders with moderate capacity, 5-15 units/month, mixed chassis fleets.
What Is a FAS (Fully Assembled) Body?
A Fully Assembled (FAS) body is built and finished at the Kit-Go factory. Your team handles only chassis mounting: 1-3 hours, 1 worker. Higher unit cost, minimum workshop involvement.
Best for: LCV dealers, fleet operators with tight schedules, urgent one-off conversions.
Cost Comparison
| Level | Install Time | Kits/Truck | Unit Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| CKD | 6-8 h | 5-9 | Lowest |
| PAS | 3-4 h | 2-4 | Medium |
| FAS | 1-3 h | 1 | Highest |
Which Level Is Right?
- 10+ units, workshop capacity: CKD
- 5-15 units/month: PAS
- No bodybuilding infrastructure: FAS
All Kit-Go body kits (aluminium tipper, dropside, curtain side, flatbed) are available in CKD, PAS and FAS for Sprinter, Crafter/TGE, Daily, Transit, Master, Ducato/Boxer/Jumper, Movano.
